MY STORY
Maureen Y. Smith
Hello! My name is Maureen and some people also call me Mo. First, I am the daughter of God and the sister of Jesus who is also my Lord and my Savior. Next, I am a divorced mother of two young adult children (a son and a daughter) who are my heart. I am also a sister, an aunt, a cousin, and a friend. I am a two-time cancer survivor and I praise God for keeping me here and letting me know that I still have work to be done.
I am a Certified Life Coach with an emphasis on Christian beliefs and values, an author, a speaker, a podcast host, and a trainer in small group and bible studies. I have a gift of probing and asking the right questions (i.e., not just any question) to get to the deepest root of the problem so that people can heal, develop, and mature as a child of God.
I have also worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over thirty years where I have held many leadership roles that involved creating, implementing, and facilitating training programs and workshops, mentoring new and experienced employees, and training and coaching newly hired employees.
It is easy to say and share all that is currently going on, but some things were not always that easy for me. Growing up as the youngest of five children in Kentucky, I was not confident within myself in my early years as a child. I was shy, very sensitive, and I did not want to make eye contact. As if that wasn’t enough, I had a speech impediment that caused me to stutter so the shyness and the challenges with my speech made me distant at times with people. My family always showed an unconditional love for me, but it was going outside of the four walls of the home that became terrifying.
However, God placed a patient second grade teacher in my life that worked with me after school and instilled the love of reading into me. It helped me to think through my conversations, and it also gave me more self-esteem as I gained knowledge and learned many things from reading. Looking back where I started and seeing my life now, you can see the hand of God ordering my steps.
Although I had accomplished many things in life, the main thing that became a struggle for me was my relationships that I had experienced. Many of my own seeds of destruction came from me trying to be a people-pleaser by building friendships and relationships without God in the picture. What I have come to understand is that through it all, God wants to be the main one that I have a relationship with and to not take it for granted, minimize it, or to pick and choose when I want it.
It has not come easy, mainly because of my own disobedience. I have learned that He needs to really be first in my life and not just in lip service or to just be saying it. I must trust and believe in Him in everything that I say, mean, and do. When I have walked in obedience, my life has become peaceful, and I am able to live that life of abundance that He has designed for me. I love Him with my whole heart and I enjoy feeling His presence in me. I strive each day to be more like Him, less of me, and more loving and forgiving of others.
I have realized that I am now a vessel being used by God. He has taught me how to operate in the spirit. He is using me to help others who have done things their own way, or who have become stuck, or who feel defeated because of all the hurt and pain that they have experienced. If that is you, please come along on this journey with me and let’s walk in the abundant life together. I want you to know that you will be given an opportunity to work through all the things that keep you brokenhearted or at rock bottom.
Most of the seeds and roots that I cover are what most people have gone through so there are not many topics that are off-limits, and they will be done in a biblical fashion. Prayerfully, the tools that you learn will give you the confidence and assurance that you want for your life and that you will also have the desire and the will to help someone else live a life of abundance. I pray that this will be a continuous awareness for each person to embrace as you become a participant of this study or if you desire to be coached. Please know that this is not an opportunity to be religious, but it will be a privilege for you to have an intimate and close relationship with God as you walk in your purpose.
